Before going to TGA I read up on lots of reviews so that I could get a feel of what to expect from the hotel etc after spending a good amount of £ on this holiday, I have heard a few horror stories about Egypt in terms of cleanliness and value for money.
Generally reviews for this hotel tend to be mixed but after having a fantastic week there only last week I felt it important to post my own review to really give this hotel the credit it deserves and to reassure and give advice for any people considering staying at this hotel that it is well worth the stay and probably one of the best in Egypt. Ultimately it offers a relaxing stay with great weather, good food & drink all in one place. Ideal if this is what you are after. Bear in mind this is an Egyptian 5 star so it is not going to be similar or comparable to English 5 star - but good all the same.
My boyfriend and I are extremely conscious of cleanliness and can be fussy with food and was expecting for an AI resort to be disappointed with the food selection and appeal. However the food was excellent in both the al la carte restaurants and even the main 'Marrakech buffet' restaurant. There are of course some foods which are not too all taste (they are catering for several nationalities after all) but there is so much selection there is sure to be something for all even those most fussy. They cook omelettes and pancakes to order and there is a fresh selection of pastries, cereals. Most of all things were warm and appeared fresh. Throughout our stay neither myself or my partner experienced 'Egyptian tummy'. My only advice would be to book early to get the al la carte restaurant you want and to avoid disappointment - the Mediterranean one was one of the best. Would highly recommend the beach bar for fresh made pizza's and spaghetti at lunch, we went there every day and there are lovely views of the sea.
The staff were friendly and very helpful, although do beware of the housekeeping staff they can be persistent in knocking on your door and waiting for you to come back from the pool 'just to see if you are happy with everything' they are of course after tips but I would recommend doing this in one go at the end. Could not fault how clean they kept the apartment just their persistent can grate. Staff always busy cleaning etc and more than happy to help.
The hotel is massive and there is so much to see and do. I would recommend the jetty for snorkelling (is over 1km and the longest for the resort and out of all hotels), the various pool bars and pools, the health centre for cheap all body massages (they often throw in extras foc too.) - we even enjoyed the games room for table tennis.
The weather was amazing a consistent 35 degrees all week (which they consider 'winter' - just to bear in mind because it is winter the sun goes down at 5.30pm so good to ge up early and make the most of your day.) Do not need cardigans for the evening it is humid. Found that weather can get oppressive during noon-3pm but sitting in the shade is just as lovely.
We went on one trip 'star gazing' which would highly recommend. You get to go on a camel ride through the desert to meet the Bedouin people experience their culture and traditions which is round off with star gazing and telescopes. Really good as the skies in the desert are so clear you can see everything. Good value for money also - £37. Would have gone to Cairo or Luxor if staying for 2 weeks am sure they would have been worthwhile and nice for exploring if you are easily bored of relaxing in the sun.
Recommend going into Naama Bay later in the evening the better as is more lively and cultural - this hotel does a shuttle bus but they do not go that regularly - taxi cheap and roughly £8 one way or £16 2 way. Recommend the shisha bar strip a must and the Egyptian restaurant superb. Not sure of its name but is the only one they feature on the map the rep gives you.
All though Egypt is built for you not to walk out your complex it is worth walking out to the left of the complex where there is a really friendly shish bar with entertainment. There are shops to the right - be warned they hassle you. Always barter for your price. They have supermarkets and pharmacies and bank nearby.
Fantastic holiday would definitely return to this hotel.
