A new way to book your holiday with Cosmos | | 24th June 2008 | Sister brand to Avro Flights, Cosmos, is rebranding themselves as a trade only brand. Those who have purchased flights from Cosmos in the past will now have to book your vacation arrangements through a travel agent. Before this change was announced, nearly 35 per cent of Cosmos business was from consumers who purchased hotel and airfare directly.
The company has created a new portal called Monarch that will allow their Cosmos brand to be purchased through the use of a travel agent. Typical vacation packages will be under the Monarch Holiday's brand, flights under Monarch Flights, and hotels under Monarch Hotels.
The decision was made because the company felt that they were competing against travel agents for business. The company felt this was only hurting the sales of both parties.
Stuart Jackson, Product and Commercial Director for the company stated that “There won't be a great difference between the retail sector price and the direct price. And this danger is far less than when direct customers and agents' customers were both booking Cosmos. People will book through channels for many reasons and agents add value to a booking because of the personal touches and customer service they are able to give. And if customers decide they want to migrate either way that is fine.”
The company has already begun the migration by changing the Cosmos website over to the Monarch brand. The transition is expected to be fairly seamless.
