Norwich passengers stranded as LTE suspends flights | | 20th October 2008 | The Spanish leisure carrier LTE International Airways suspended all flights, an action which has left passengers on flights operated from Norwich Airport stranded in Spain.
The airline posted a statement on its website that said: “it just was not possible to avoid this situation given world events lately.”
In July, LTE had launched weekly services that connected Norwich with Alicante, Barcelona and Palma.
With operating bases in the Canary Island, Milan and Parma, the carrier ran a fleet of seven Airbus A320s, each capable of carrying 180 passengers.
LTE also operated flights for a number of tour companies in Europe and the UK, including Cosmos, which has arranged for a flight to repatriate holidaymakers stranded in Tenerife.
An unspecified number of passengers from Norwich were due to return to the UK on Saturday from Alicante, Barcelona and Palma, and have been informed of the airline grounding its planes and that they will need to make alternate arrangements to return to Norwich.
Those who booked with ATOL-protected tour operator Sunways Holidays have been advised to contact the tour company for return flight arrangements, or if they have yet to travel, for a refund, a statement from the airport indicated.
The managing director of Norwich Airport, Richard Jenner, said: “We are deeply disappointed at this news, which has come completely out of the blue.
“Bookings on LTE flights from Norwich had been doing well and we had high hopes for the success of their services.” |
