Thomson offers £2 per night holidays | | 29th July 2008 | As the credit crunch bites harder, Thomson Holidays offers sunshine getaways for a mere £2 for per night
Holidaymakers on a post-credit crunch budget might not need to abandon overseas travel yet, with the UK's biggest tour operator offering hundreds of foreign holidays at £2 a night.
Thomson Holidays is currently offering sunshine getaways for a mere £2 for a double room or studio apartment in destinations including Turkey and Greece. The price does not include flights.
The catch to the deal is that some of the rooms can only be booked for one night in October at a time - so someone booking rooms for a week could have to pay an increased sum after their first night. There are, however, still some week-long deals left.
The price is for one-bedroom or studio apartments in two or three-star hotels, and no food is included. Destinations include several of the Greek islands, such as Kefalonia, Minorca and Thassos, and Turkey's Turquoise Coast.
A spokesman for Thomson said: "Thomson does occasionally run targeted marketing initiatives to promote small pockets of availability. This is in no way a reflection of the current economic conditions. In fact, as noted in our most recent results released in May 2008, Thomson has not seen any evidence of deteriorating customer sentiment in booking patterns."
Frances Tuke, a spokesman for the Association of British Travel Agents, said: "These prices are very good for people willing to travel outside the peak holiday months.
"Turkey has been a popular market this year, because it is outside the eurozone and British travellers are now familiar with it. Bookings to Turkey are up by 20 per cent on last year.
He added: “Despite the economic downturn, it seems many people are not prepared to give up their holiday, but are more inclined to cut back on other things." |
