Kofta is a type of kebab made from minced lamb, which tastes a lot better thank it looks! You'll also find kebabs made from chicken and other types of red meat, accompanied by dips such as hummus or babaghanoug (tahina with aubergine).
Fish might be on the menu, and if so it's normally grilled or fried and served with salad and chips. Sea Bass come from the Red Sea, or you might try Nile perch or snapper.
Vines leaves are stuffed with rice and minced lamb.

SOUVENIRS
Spices are sold in the local bazaars and you'll be amazed at the choice.
Gold and Silver is excellent value, and sold by weight. Modern jewellery is normally 18 carat, whilst traditional styles will be 21 carat. We suggest you shop from reputable jewellery shops.
Alabaster jars and ornaments may be hand or machine made and can be bought in local bazaars or shops around the resorts.
Papyrus is authentic Egyptian paper, which stimulated early writing systems in Egypt. You'll find stunning hand painted sheets, some of which are copies of ancient art.
Carpets woven from cotton, wool or silk are sold in the local bazaars.
The best cotton in the world is made in Egypt, and although the finest quality goods are often exported, you'll find plenty of holiday wear to buy in the local shops.
